It's been a while since I've done one of these, so here it is. Participation is optional, obviously, and feel free to answer all of them or just the ones you're comfortable with.
[Poll #1212440]
And because I'm in a nosy mood today, I guess:
These are just because I'm curious, and I enjoy seeing how my own likes and dislikes stack up against everyone else's. If you have lots to say about a question and there's not enough room in the text box, you're welcome to comment instead.
A little clarification on the questions, in case you're wondering.
This is for what you read, not what you write. And let's assume that things like "in character", "good spelling and grammar", "properly formatted", etc. are what everyone would like to see in an ideal fic, and that the opposites of those things are what everyone wouldn't like in a fic.
"My bulletproof kink is:" My definition of bulletproof kink is something that you will read a fic for even if you might normally stay away from it because of author, site, pairing, poor spelling/grammar, etc. Something that trips your trigger every time. Just one or two of these would be great.
"My ideal fic includes:" Things that don't make or break a fic for you, but if they were all used and paired up with your bulletproof kink, it would be the perfect story. These can be as general or specific as you want.
"One thing that automatically ruins a fic for me is:" I'm just looking for one or two things here, something that will send you scrambling for the back button even if the fic is otherwise BRILLIANT. I'm curious about things that maybe some people don't mind, or enjoy, but you just absolutely can't stand. "Arse" instead of "ass", or fisting, or characters under eighteen getting it on, or having it set in Arkansas. I DON'T KNOW, SOME PEOPLE MIGHT HATE THAT.
"My ideal fic would not include:" For this one, you can list everything you don't particularly enjoy seeing in a fic, but it wouldn't make you stop reading if it was in there.
"My ideal fic's length would be:" These are my own definitions of length. I'm sure some people consider anything under 1000 words to be super short, or between 10,000 and 20,000 to be medium.

ideal fic includes: i dunno, any kind of angst and non-con and humor.
ruins a fic: out-of-characterness and heavy sex-type stuff like rimming and other gross sexual activities in non-clean areas of the body. (surprise? i hate pwps)
ideal fic doesn't include: i'm really picky, so way too many things to list. like, even certain dialogue and stuff.
length: extra-long and epic. both. it's ironic, i know. i've never even written anything above 10,000.

You are awesome for finishing it even though your laptop tried to stop you! In case it ever happens again, I did learn recently that you can go back and edit your answers in a poll by clicking on the Poll #whatever, and then clicking "Fill out poll" or whatever it says. Because I'm kind of a spazz and like to edit my answers like five times. :D
I am so curious about your "fic doesn't include" stuff! If you feel like it sometime, you should write me a long comment about it. ;)

uhm, basically it depends on the fandom/pairing, etc. like in spn, i like a dark angsty atmosphere, so any kind of like banter about fart jokes or something totally ruins it for me. and sometimes girls really really really can't write guys for shit, which is understandable, but i mean c'mon you at least have to know one member of the male species.
i dunno, if something comes up that i hate, i'll write you a list, haha. usually it's just: "doesn't know how to write." lol.

Also - I don't really care about the length. If it's a 50k PWP, I've got issues but a 50k fic with tonnes of plot? I'm there.

That's a good point. I have a tough time with length, though, even if it's super plotty, I have a hard time paying attention for long amounts of time. :D

I just write everything I think I want to see
That's a really good policy, though. Very few people are willing to do that, and so many great ideas go by the wayside!
Don't hide! *pulls you out of hiding* ;)

I'm going to fill this now.. :)

To clarify a little on my bulletproof kink: When I say "bondage," I mean for real real, not for play play. Light, vanilla bondage (hands tied to the headboard or the arms of a chair with nothing else, stuff like that) actually turns me off if I'm in the mood for something more serious--which I usually am. But real, hardcore, no-bullshit bondage, the kind you can tell was written by someone who is either part of the scene or has done some serious research, gets me every time.
As for gags, if it's only in for a paragraph or two and then gets taken off and forgotten--like it was added as an afterthought--I actually get angry and will stop reading unless it's fucking amazing fic. Gags are definitely my favorite part of bondage (I have a ridiculous oral fixation) and it's so disappointing that a very small chunk of people share my love for them. For the record, light bondage with a gag that stays in will always do the trick for me, even if I want something hardcore. The gag makes it so. I'd even go so far as to say that fic with just a gag, no additional bondage or other kink, would probably get me pretty good.
Also, to expand on the clumsy/ugly imagery in my "ideal fic would not include" answer: Imagery is very important for me, and I always want things to be pretty. Of course, "pretty" to me doesn't necessarily mean nice and clean and prim and proper. I think a lot of terrible, violent things are pretty, things that by their very nature are not clean or proper. But I still want it to be presented in a fashion that is aesthetically pleasing--or, in this case, described in such a manner that I can imagine my own aesthetically pleasing scene via the author's words. I think sometimes this conflicts with my love of realistic description, but honestly I believe most anything can be described in a visually pleasing (and, if you're a really talented writer or a really twisted reader, arousing) way.
And, yes. I LOVE TALKING ABOUT KINK.

Though, yeah, obsession to near-unhealthy degrees is usually bulletproof.
Actually, wait, that's a lie! Because I'm really picky about WHO is the obsessed one. D: Often either is okay, but almost always I have a preference as to who is MORE obsessed with the other. Like, an easy one where I don't go either way, Remus Lupin/Sirius Black - I like it better, to be cruel about it, when Sirius is more in love than Remus is.
And I couldn't even pick an option for fic length, because much as I adore epic fic to crazy degrees, fic can be awesome and short, too. I am an open-minded gal.

I'm trying to think of a pairing where I'd be picky about who was the obsessed one...I guess with Mohinder/Sylar, I'd much rather see Sylar be bugfuck nuts obsessed with Mohinder than vice-versa, but that's kind of how the canon has it set up to be. Same with Dean/Sam, Sam's already proven he can break away from Dean, so it would be weird to me to see a fic where Sam is obsessed with him.
With RPF I guess it'd be harder, considering we don't have nearly as much insight into their relationships. (I can't help but use Frank/Gerard as an example, because I've been reading up on them all day. :D) I suppose if I had to wager a guess as to what their "canon" would allude to, I'd say Frank would be more likely to be the one obsessed with Gerard.
I'm with you on the length. Rarely am I in the mood for something epic, I'm usually a medium-length type of reader, but sometimes you just want to settle in and read for hours. A lot of the shorter fic I read has a lot more impact though.

But yes, I prefer Dean being the suuuper obsessed one. Sam is go-crazy-if-I-lose-you obsessed, Dean is go-crazy-and-sell-my-soul-to-hell-if-I-lose-you obsessed. Sylar definitely, definitely has to be the addicted one.
For Frank/Gerard, I really really like either of them obsessed! But, like, the quiet, filled with need till it kind of hurts but pretending everything is cool kind of obsessed.

I will definitely have to read
